Lorenz Schmuhl collection

Consists of diaries, correspondence, photographs, and other documents relating to Lorenz C. Schmuhl's service as the first commander of Buchenwald after liberation and his work with displaced persons in Wiesbaden, Germany. Other materials contain information about Karl, Kommandant of Buchenwald concentration camp during World War II, and his wife, Ilse Koch; liberation of various concentration camps; and the use of tattooing in concentration camps. Includes enlarged copies of original photographs with captions and an article written by journalist R.P. Harrison after interviewing Schmuhl about his experiences in Dachau.
