    Stan Khazan, born in 1953 in Romny, Ukraine, discusses moving to Lvov (Lviv, Ukraine) when he was in elementary school; his parents, David Khazan (born on August 23, 1927) and Sophia Jashinsky Khazan (born on October 29, 1931); being an only child; his grandparents who understood Yiddish; getting married to Eleonora Kogan in 1979 in Kiev, Ukraine; their daughter Julia; attending college in Russia for electrical engineering; being drafted in the Soviet Army during the Afghanistan war; designing nuclear project stations; immigrating to the United States in 1989; not having many Jewish friends in the Soviet Union; and the culture of antisemitism in Lvov.

    Provenance
    The Women's Auxiliary of the Jewish Community Centers of Chicago conducted the interview with Stan Khazan on July 11, 1990 as part of an oral history project to document the experiences of Jews who fled the former Soviet Union. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum received a copy of the interview in June 1995.
