Description: The collection consists of records of the Council of the Kaunas Jewish community in Lithuania, reflecting different aspects of the activities of the Jewish communities of Kaunas during the inter-war period and at the beginning of World War II. The collection includes correspondence with local and government authorities, the Ministry of Jewish Affairs, local Jewish communities across Lithuania regarding budget, tax collection, salaries of Jewish community officials, and their election. Also contains records related to Jewish schools; minutes of meetings; annual reports; budget proposals; card files of Lithuanian rabbis ( file 49-166); statistics about Jewish agricultural workers; unemployed Jews; Jewish primary schools; birth, death, marriage, and divorce certificates issued by local Jewish communities ( folder 245-279); and documents of war refugees.
