- Ivo Kraus, born in 1921 in Osijek, Yugoslavia (now in Croatia), describes studying engineering in Belgrade, Serbia, where he lived with his two older brothers (Fritz and Egon); the bombing in Belgrade in April 1941; doing forced labor under the Nazis; escaping and being arrested by the Ustaša in Croatia; going to Split (Spalato), Croatia and the Italian occupation; being interned with his brothers in Split then sent to Piedmont, Italy; and escaping with his brothers in 1943 and going to Switzerland.
