Mändle family papers

The Mändle family papers consist of documents related to the World War I experiences of Siegfried Mändle and the Mändle family’s 1939 immigration documents. Siegfried Mändle, Reida Mändle, and Brigette Mändle emigrated from Augsburg, Germany to the United States in 1939 aboard the Volendam. The papers includes a 1918 proficiency handbook for handling weapons, a license (Wehrmanns-Ausweis) for bearing a firearm, and an Einwohnerwehr (Inhabitant Department) officer handbook. The immigration documents include passports (Reisepasses) for the family, Siegried Mändle’s passport issued in 1936 and Reida and Brigitte Mändle’s passport issued in 1939; an immigrant identification card issued to Brigitte Mändle in 1939 by the American Consulate in London; a copy of a marriage license (Heiratsurkunde) issued by the "standesamt" for Rieda Lichtenstetter and Siegfried Mändle, originally issued May 13, 1929, copy made March 1939 in preparation for immigration efforts; and a Certificate of Naturalization for the United States of America issued to Reida Mändle, July 1945.
