Mändle family papers

Contains documents related to the World War I experiences of Siegfried Mändle (donor’s father), and documents concerning the immigration efforts of Siegfried, Reida, and Brigette Mändle, who immigrated from Augsburg, Germany, to the United States in 1939 aboard the Volendam. Includes a 1918 proficiency handbook for handling weapons, a license (Wehrmanns-Ausweis) for bearing a firearm, and an Einwohnerwehr (Inhabitant Department) officer handbook. The immigration documents include passports (Reisepasses) for the family, issued in 1936 (Siegfried) and 1939 (Rieda and Brigitte); an immigrant identification card issued to Brigitte in 1939 by the American Consulate in London; a copy of a marriage license (Heiratsurkunde) issued by the "standesamt" for Rieda Lichtenstetter and Siegfried Mändle, originally issued May 13, 1929, copy made March 1939 in preparation for immigration efforts; and a Certificate of Naturalization for the United States of America issued to Reida, July 1945.
