Welfare organization conceived in 1935 in response to persecution of Jews in Europe, which launched an appeal to save German Jewry through migration on the first day of Passover, 7 April 1936. In subsequent decades the organisation became a major welfare service provider to the Jewish community, in aged care, family services, mental health and other areas.
