    Postwar court records of Nazi-related cases in the state court of Klagenfurt, Austria for the years 1970 to 1973. The collection includes the case against Ernst Lerch and Helmut Pohl for the murder of 2 million Jews under Aktion Reinhardt, which was dismissed in 1976. Includes also cases of Rudolf Payker and Gerhard Rupp who took part at the execution of 2 members of Gebirgsjaegerregiments 143 in May 1945 in Norway.

Files include the name and personal data of each defendant, a summary of the case including the criminal charges, a description of the crime(s), as well as the judicial history of each case. These cover sheets were digitized at the beginning of each file and are also available as a separate finding aid.

    This material can only be accessed in a Museum reading room or other on-campus viewing stations. These court cases are closed for 50 years after the last year of a given case. However, researchers may access the reproductions if they have written permission from the source archive.

    Publication of documents or use of documents for commercial purposes requires written permission from the source archive.

    Source of acquisition is the Landesgericht Klagenfurt (State Court Klagenfurt), Austria. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s International Archives Project in December 2016, and accretion in Feb. 2021.
    Note: This is an ongoing project. At least one more accretion is expected. Each case has its own cover sheet description, which is included in each electronic folder for each case. At the conclusion of the entire digitization project, we will receive a finding aid in Excel spreadsheet format.
