- Description
- Collection of documents entrusted to 1st Lt Lavan Robinson, who was in the 86th Infantry Division of the United States Army. Robinson worked to bring order to the Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany in 1945. In exchange, Robinson received gifts of appreciation from the people he assisted or worked with in the camp. Also included is correspondence received by Robinson after he returned to the United States and a modern letter detailing the events of the time period by Robinson.

Hand-made wooden souvenir letter opener
Object
Painted wood souvenir letter opener given to Lavan Robinson. One side is engraved, "Souvenir from your boys" and the other is engraved, "Post Theatre Dachau 1946. The handle of the letter opener is a four-leaf clover.
Watercolor of the Bavarian Alps

Watercolor titled "Bavarian Alps", signed H.C. January 1946. The drawing, done in both watercolor and pencil, depicts the Alps as well as chalets. The backing originally attached to the frame had the inscription, "With many good wishes for the future! To M. Robbie from Helen" February 1946, Dachau, Germany."

Portfolio cover for set of four watercolor and ink drawings depicting different rooms within the Officer's Quarters in Dachau, Germany in February 1946. The front and back cover pages are adhered together with a strip of red and white gingham fabric, and a matching piece of fabric ties the cover together on the right. The front cover depicts the outside of the officer's quarters, with a small inset in the lower right corner showing a portion of the building titled "my corner!." The inside of the back cover shows a man and woman in traditional Bavarian dress along with other smaller drawings.
