    Biography
Lola Goldsmith (1932-2009) was born Hannelore Goldschmidt, the daughter of Walter and Else (nee Lindau) Goldschmidt, in Hildesheim, Germany. The Goldschmidt family lived in Hildesheim until leaving Germany in 1939, settling in Cirencester, England. Having had to register as enemy aliens, they anglicized their names to "Goldsmith" at this point in time. Lola went to school and spent her early adolescent years in England, and befriended many American men and women who were stationed near Cirencester with the U.S. military during the war years. Following the war, the family decided to immigrate to the United States, and settled in Minnesota in 1947, eventually becoming U.S. citizens. Lola Goldsmith lived the rest of her life in the Twin Cities region, and died in Minneapolis on 4 February, 2009.
