    Description
    This collection contains selected records of the city Żyrardów in Poland, e.g. registers of permanent inhabitants and houses, birth certificates, circular letters and other documents issued by the German authorities (1940-1943); witness testimonies relating to the crimes committed by the Gestapo and gendarmerie; documents relating to the changing of surnames, social welfare in the wartime including a list of victims, and documents of the WWII Committee of the Exhumation of those Murdered by the Nazis.

    Biography
    The town of Żyrardów is situated in the heart of Poland, at the south-west part of Mazowieckie Voivodeship, 45 km from Warsaw and 90 km from Łódź. The town is 1.433 ha in area. The town has a population of more than 40 thousand.

    Arranged in nine series: 1. The register of permanent residents of the city Żyrardów (before WWII); 2. Metrics and correspondence of the city population, 1938-1940: 3. Circulars and orders of the supervisory authorities, 1934-1945; 4. Protocols of testimonies of witnesses of those arrested by the Gestapo and gendarmerie, 1945; 5. Records relating to the changes of surnames, 1948-1949; 6. Lists of people executed by the Germans in the city, and correspondence, 1934-1947; 7. Registration books of the city population on the streets: Fabryczna (Okrzei), Familijnej (Mireckiego), Mielczarskiego (Ogrodowa), Narutowicza (Szkolna), 1 Maja, Szeroka (Łukasinskiego), and Tylna (16 Stycznia); 8. Records of the WWII Committee of Exhumation of those Murdered by the Nazis in Międzyborów; Registry of homes in Żyrardów with a list of residents (including Jewish population); 9. The lists of killed and murdered by Germans, buried at the Roman Catholic cemetery in Żyrardów, and minutes of meetings of the WWII Committee of the Exhumation of those Murdered by the Nazis.

    Conditions on Access
    This material can only be accessed in a Museum reading room or other on-campus viewing stations. Restrictions on access refer to selected files of the collection RG-15.379: Files 284, 285, 661-1438. Third parties are required to obtain the written consent of the Director of the Polish State Archives in Grodzisk Mazowiecki to access these files. The Museum staff may access these records without special permission.
    Conditions on Use
    Reproduction of more than 100 pages of copies of documents for researchers or other institutions requires a written permission of the General Director of the State Archives of the Republic of Poland. Publication of more than 10 complete documents in an individual work requires the written authorization of the General Director. The Museum may not publish any archival material obtained from the General Director, including specific archives under his control, on the Internet, the World Wide Web, or any other publicly accessible on-line network without the written permission of the General Director. Citation of the materials in any publication must refer to the Museum and the Polish State Archives and must include the name of the archival group and catalogue number of the originals.
