Between 1919 and 1939, the Lodz District Office functioned under the regulation of the Council of Ministers of August 28, 1919 on the temporary organization of poviat administrative authorities and the executive regulation of November 13, 1919. It was responsible for maintaining public safety and peace as well as supervising public premises, associations, assemblies, press, shows, foreigners, criminal and moral police, weapons and ammunition, order on roads and streets, matters arising from the provisions on transport of people and goods by motor vehicles, activities of the poviat council of general administration on criminal and administrative proceedings, and development of mobilization issues ordered by the voivode.

- Source of acquisition is the Archiwum Państwowe w Łodzi, Poland, Sygn. 2123. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in January 2020. This is a cooperative project based on the agreement between USHMM and Yad Vashem, Israel.
