    Biography
Hannah Zimmerman (1941-2017) was born Hanna Zimmermann on December 24, 1941 in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia (Bratislava, Slovakia) to Maria Zimmermann (1901 or 1911-1984, née Wachsmann, later Maria Zimmerman) and Moric Zimmermann (1906-1982, later Morris Zimmerman). Hannah’s parents placed her in hiding in a Catholic monastery around 1943. Maria and Moric were deported to Sered in late 1944, and transferred to Theresienstadt in March 1945. They were liberated in May 1945, and soon reunited with Hannah. The family remained in Bratislava until 1951. They briefly lived in Munich, Germany before immigrating to the United States aboard the Queen Elizabeth in May 1952. The Zimmermans settled in New York and Hannah became a naturalized citizen in 1964.
