- Henia Shylit (née Rozencwig), born on February 2, 1922 in Kozienice, Poland, discusses her family’s forced relocation into the ghetto in Kozienice in 1940; her deportation to Pionki slave labor camp in 1942, and later to Auschwitz; surviving a death march from Auschwitz in January 1945; her liberation from Bergen-Belsen by British forces on April 15, 1945; her recovery in the Bergen-Belsen displaced persons camp; marrying Elias Shylit in December 1946; the birth of her daughter Toby in September 1947; the family’s voyage by ship to the United States through Ellis Island on October 3, 1950; and settling in Brooklyn, NY, where her son Ben was born in December 1951.

- Danielle Shylit donated the oral history interview with her grandmother Henia Shylit to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in January 2021. Danielle Shylit produced the interview in spring 2002 when she was a middle school humanities teacher at Sparhawk School in Amesbury, MA. Students in her Holocaust elective class conducted the interview by telephone.
