The collection documents the wartime and postwar experiences of Edith Bertha Lowe (née Ziegler), who fled Vienna, Austria to Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire, England in late 1938 or early 1939 on a Kindertransport. The bulk of the collection consists of prewar and wartime correspondence with members of her family in Vienna and Belgium. Other correspondence includes letters received from various friends and her husband James Crawford Lowe. Documents in the collection include ephemera from her time at Briar Patch orphanage and Letchworth Garden City, a ration book, clippings, and materials related to her immigration from England to Canada in 1949.
