Isaac Mischkinsky and Bella Mischkinsky describe their secret wedding at the work camp in Riga, Latvia; Isaac’s role overseeing the physical expansion of the camp since he was a civil engineer; the roles of Jews in the camp; Bella’s views on the effects of camp life on the inmates; their removal from Riga to other camps; being imprisoned in Germany; their arduous path to liberation; working with the HIAS in Europe after the liberation; immigrating to the United States; settling in Peoria, Illinois and then in New York City; and the attitudes of American Jews towards Jewish refugees.
