    Overview

    Collection Summary
The collection includes train and bus tickets, a telegram, a ship ticket holder, identity card and correspondence surrounding the experiences of Siegfried Singer, an Austrian Jew who was able to flee to the United Kingdom with his sister Melanie (Mella) in 1939. He ultimately arrived in the United States in 1940, where their parents were able to flee directly from Vienna, Austria, ahead of their children. The collection also includes a set of tefillin and bag embroidered with the Hebrew calendar year 5697 (which corresponds to 1937) on one side and the name "Shimon Singer" (Fred's Hebrew name) in Hebrew on the opposite side.
    Provenance
The collection was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2024 by Rochelle "Rocky" Lieberman, cousin of Siegfried Singer.
