    Biography
    Kurt Richard Anker (Hebrew name Yaakov [Jacob], b. 1919, Free City of Danzig) was the son of Arthur Anker and grandson of Simon Anker (d. 1935), a wealthy grain merchant in Danzig and a prominent member of the local Jewish community. Kurt was active in the local Jewish Youth Organization. Anticipating problems after the rise of Hitler, Arthur started moving money out of Danzig in 1935 and immigrated with his family to the U.S. in October 1938.
