    Interview Summary
    Lea Lowenthal (née Dukker), born in Holland on June 3, 1915, discusses her childhood in Holland and Belgium; her flight from Belgium ahead of Nazi occupation in 1940 with eight other family members including her husband Kalman and son Joseph; the family’s two-year journey through France during which they encountered Nazis and were aided by members of the French Resistance; their time in Marseilles and the help they received from the Dutch consulate; issues related to her husband’s Polish ID papers; the family’s time in Casablanca, Morocco in which they were semi-detained for six weeks 1942; and their difficult journey to the United States where they were received by cousins who had emigrated years earlier.
