- Brief Narrative
- The wallet was owned by Izak Zak, who used it to hold important documents. It is part of a collection that consists of photographs, documents, telegrams and correspondence illustrating the experiences of Lena Koenigstein, born in Mikolow, Poland, and Izak Zak, born in Bialystok, Poland. Lena and Izak, separately, were deported to slave labor and concentration camps and upon liberation from Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, they met and remained in the Bergen-Belsen displaced persons camp. Their collection illustrates Izak's father Chaim reaching out to family in the USA before the war as well as Izak, Lena, and her sisters, Rose and Eda (who also survived), rebuilding their lives afterwards, including the birth of their daughter, Sala, in the displaced persons camp.
