    Description
    Multiply by Six Million - Portraits and Stories of Holocaust Survivors, formerly entitled Legacy: Portraits of Holocaust Survivors, was a project conceived by photographer Evvy Eisen to document Holocaust survivors in California and France. The project ran from 1992-2006, and consisted of portraits of survivors taken by Eisen, accompanied by personal narratives authored by the survivors. The portraits are black and white silver gelatin prints sized at either 11”x14” or 8”x11.” The subject files include copies of the narratives and contact prints of outtakes from the photoshoot. Some files also include related material to the subject gathered by Eisen. Narratives authored by French survivors include drafts in English and French.

    Biography
    Evvy Eisen is a photographer and teacher in the San Francisco Bay area. She specializes in environmental portraits, often involving socially relevant issues. Eisen’s projects include: Multiply by Six Million - Portraits and Stories of Holocaust Survivors, Paris Métro, Oyster Farm, and Famille. Her work has been exhibited in the United States and abroad.

The accessions numbered 1995.A.1205 and 2020.332.1 have been incorporated into this collection.
