Berta was assigned to live with the Sampsons at Bloomsbury House from March 1939-1942. From left  to right:  Berta, Mrs. Sampson (Kathleen), the Sampson's son and dog, and Mr. Sampson (Harry). Mr. Sampson was a housepainter, and joined the RAF when the war started.
