Caption: Portrait of Willem Arondeus, the leader of a gay resistance group in Amsterdam.

Arondeus' group carried out the bombing of the Amsterdam Population Register offices on 27 March 1943 in order to destroy records of Jews and others sought by the Nazis. As a result of this act, Arondeus was executed in 1943. His rescue efforts have been recognized by Yad Vashem and the USHMM.
