Italian civilians exhume a mass grave containing the bodies of 38 Italians shot by German forces.
The victims were chosen at random and killed in reprisal for the murder of an Italian Fascist by partisans in August 1944. A young Italian woman who protested the killings to the Germans was shot along with the other hostages.
