Zoia Bershtanski sits at a table in her room in the Kovno ghetto. Zoia Bershtanski lived with her married sister, Meri Karnovski, in the ghetto. Both died in a bunker when the Germans set the ghetto on fire in July 1944. The photographer, David Ratner, was a friend and a member of the Communist underground.
