Pages ten and eleven of the German passport issued to Isidor Abraham (the grandfather of the donor's wife) on April 11, 1939.
Persecution of Jews in Hitler's Reich intensified in 1938. All passports held by Jews were stamped with a red "J." Fleeing Germany after the nationwide, Nazi-organized attacks on Jews and Jewish property during November 8-9, 1938 (Kristallnacht), Isidor Abraham's family emigrated from Berlin to Shanghai, which did not require a visa for entrance. Abraham later died in Shanghai.
