    Jechiel Jeszaja Trunk, Yiddish novelist and essayist and president of the Yiddish P.E.N. Club in Warsaw. 

J.J. Trunk (1887-1961) was born in Warsaw.  There he became famous as an author and Bund activist.  After the start of World War II, Trunk fled Warsaw and came to Lithuania.  He was among those labor activists and intellectuals whose names were submitted by the AFL and the Jewish Labor Committee to receive visas to the United States.  There he received a transit visa to Japan from Sugihara.  After crossing the Soviet Union he came from Japan and then sailed to the United States in 1941.
