A postcard sent to Rys Berkowicz in Kobe from her family and friends in Warsaw. (Address side--back)

Postcards sent during spring 1941 to the refugees in Kobe from relatives in occupied Poland. In 1941 most Polish Jews were living in ghettos established by the Nazis, and hundreds died daily from starvation, disease, and exhaustion from forced labor. Because the mail was censored, little was said about the suffering under Nazi rule. In 1942 the Nazis began systematically deporting Jews from the ghettos to Auschwitz-Birkenau and other killing centers equipped with gas chambers.
