Paul Yarin of Boston stands in the flooded engine room of the President Warfield after the gale that nearly sank the ship during its first attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean.

After the ship returned to port following the storm, Yarin left the ship due to illness. It was a very severe case of rheumatoid arthritis. He spent two years in a VA hospital (he was a WWII Coast Guard vet). He died in 1965 at age 38.
