Overview
- Caption
- Students at the Yaffskaya Shkola, a school for girls founded circa 1911.
The school's official languages were Russian and German, with courses in Yiddish. Sitting in the center is the founder, Mrs. Yaffe. To her left is Zipporah Lubetski. Zipporah and her sisters emigrated to Palestine and America, as did a few other girls in the photo. Also pictured are two Kanichowsk sisters (possibly Kreinele and Gutke). The majority of the girls were murdered by the Germans during the September 1941 mass killing action in Eisiskes and other locations. - Photographer
