    Biography
Peter Gelbart is the son of Cecil (Sissel) and Elisabeth Gelbart. He was born March 7, 1937 in Hamburg, Germany, where his father worked as a chemist. He had one brother, Robert (born September 10, 1933). Peter's father, who was born in Riga, Latvia, fled to Germany in 1918 in the wake of the Russian Revolution. The Gelbarts left Germany for America on the eve of World War II, arriving in New York aboard the SS Franconia on August 28, 1939. The family subsequently settled in Philadelphia.
