Portrait of the extended Lachter family wearing armbands in the Turobin ghetto.

Photograph | Photograph Number: 44905

Portrait of the extended Lachter family wearing armbands in the Turobin ghetto.

Standing in front is the child Devorah Lachter. Seated from left to right are: Chaja and Mottel Leichter, with Mottel's brother Moshe Lachter. Standing behind them from left to right are: Ozer Leichter, Chaya Golda Lachter, Shaya Leichter, Avrumcha Lachter, Chuma Lachter, Miriam Lachter, Moshe-Leib, Sura Leichter, and Ozer Lachter.

This photograph was sent to Yosef Lachter and his cousin Herish Leichter who had fled to the Soviet zone at the start of the war. Fearing they would never see their family again, the cousins requested that a family portrait be sent to them. Thinking that as religious Jews, their family would be reluctant to have themselves photographed, the cousins wrote that they needed the complete family portrait for official identification.
