Night-time view of one of the thoroughfares that ran through the Lodz ghetto.

Photograph | Photograph Number: 47447

Night-time view of one of the thoroughfares that ran through the Lodz ghetto.

The photograph was probably taken by a member of Police Battalion 101.

The Lodz ghetto was divided into three sectors by two major throughfares which passed through, but did not belong to the Jewish district. Wooden and barbed wire fences prevented access to these main streets by ghetto residents. But Jews were allowed to traverse the streets by means of two wooden pedestrian bridges, accessed by steep staircases.

One image from a photograph album belonging to a member of Police Battalion 101.
