- Biography
- Myron Bander (born Miron Bander) is the son of Elias and Regina Bander. He was born in Belzyce Poland on December 11, 1937. His father was a physician. Miron and his family in Belzyce until October 1939 at which point they fled east to Boryslaw. They lived in Boryslaw for the remainder of the war both in the ghetto and then in hiding assisted by the Zielonka and Krzysztazowski families. Miron was liberated by the Soviet Army on August 10, 1944 at the age of six and a half. His family remained in Boryslaw until the following May when they went to Lodz, the center of the Polish-Jewish survivor community. In June 1946, the family made its way to Austria and lived for a year in the Wels displaced persons' camp. In June 1947 they went to live in the displaced persons' camp in Stuttgart, Germany and two years later, in August 1949, they immigrated to the United States on board the General Muir.
