    Biography
David Nussbaum is the son of Saul and Chane Nussbaum. He was born December 13, 1924 in Copenhagen, Denmark, where his father owned a barbershop. Both of David's parents had immigrated to Denmark from Poland. David had one brother, Leon (b. 1914), who died at the age of 20 in 1934. In October 1943 during the German occupation of Denmark, the Nussbaums were ferried to safety in Sweden on a Danish fishing boat. The Swedish government helped them to establish a barbershop in Tyringe, where they remained until the end of the war. When the Nussbaums returned to Copenhagen in the late spring of 1945 their Danish friends returned the property that had been entrusted to them, and the Danish government provided assistance to reopen their barbershop. In January 1946 David Nussbaum married the donor, Esther Diament (b. 1922).
