Studio portrait of a Jewish family in Jaworzno in German-occupied Poland.
Pictured are Esther (Halman) Hirschberg and her two daughters. Leah Hirschberg is pictured on the right wearing a Jewish badge.
The photo was taken shortly before they were deported to Auschwitz where they were killed by the Germans. Esther's husband, Mailoch Hirschberg, kept the photograph folded in two and hidden in his shoe until the end of the war. Esther was the youngest sister of Felicja (Halman) Lieberfreund.
