- Interior view of the small Jewish chapel in Breisach Germany.
After the destruction of the Breisach synagogue on Kristallnacht, the community turned the meeting hall of the Jewish community center into a new clandestine prayer space. The cantor's son, Rudolf Eisemann, and other adolescents led the services while the adult men were interned in Dachau. This served as the last and only synagogue until the remains of the community were deported in October 22, 1940.
This is part of series of photographs taken of the Breisach Jewish community 1937. In October 1940 the entire community was deported to the Gurs internment camp in southern France. - Date
