The inscription on the building reads, "1 May, 1933  Fascist terror reigns over Germany.  1 May, 1945 Sunrise brings the dawn of freedom."

The original photo caption reads, "Shows where people have been there since 1933.  Buchenwald was in full swing about 1935.  Thousands died daily from typhus, dysentery, and T.B.  Most of them died in the crematory or the lime pit."

    Biography
    William B. Duff served in the 117th Infantry Medical Detachment as a surgical technician. He participated in the invasion of Normandy and the fighting in Northern France, the Rhineland, Central Europe, and the Ardennes. He also helped provide medical assistance to survivors of the Buchenwald concentration camp.
