    Event History
The photograph is taken from a photo album of SS officer Max Schmidt. It was found in the SS compound near Dachau by American army photographer Philip Drell after the American liberation of the camp. Drell observed a procession of wagons leaving the camp carrying bodies for burial going down a street called SS Strasse. He followed the wagons and noticed that on that street there were very handsome apartment buildings. In order not to sleep in Dachau at night he took over an apartment which had been occupied by Max Schmidt and discovered the album and other abandoned artifacts there.
