Portrait of a young Jewish woman.

Photograph | Photograph Number: 24599

Portrait of a young Jewish woman.

Pictured is the donor's wife Bela Milstein Gutman. The photograph was sent by Bela from the Blizyn concentration camp to Jacob who was working at the KZ "Truppen Wirtschafts Lager der Waffen SS" in Walowa, Poland. It was smuggled to him behind a small round mirror in a plastic case, the method they used to send letters to each other. Jacob sewed the photo into his pants and carried it with him through numerous camps. The photograph was then used to help the couple reunite after liberation.
