- Biography
- Zehava Gealel (born Zahava Shetal) is the daughter of Ze'ev and Yocheved Shetal. She was born in 1935 in The Hague, Holland and had two brothers, Avraham, and Yosef. In April, 1942 Ze'ev saved his family from transport to Auschwitz but went himself and died several weeks later. Yocheved and her children were taken to Westerbork later in 1942. From there they were sent to several camps. In 1945 they were transported out from Ravensbrueck and when their train reached a bombed portion of track, they marched to Bergen-Belsen. They were liberated in 1945 and after the war returned to Holland. Yocheved sent Zahava and Avraham to Israel, via the ship Cyrenia. In 1954, Zahava met Avraham Gaelal, and the two married in 1957.
