Photograph | Photograph Number: 34658

Nazi officers watch the presentation of a document during the dedication of the new SS hospital in Auschwitz.

The original caption reads "Die Ubergabe" (the handover). The ceremony marks the transfer of documents and authority from the construction department to the camp upon completion of the project.

Commandant Richard Baer stands on the far left. Karl Bischoff, head of construction in Silesia, is receiving the official documents from (most probably Werner Jothann) in preparation for handing them to Baer. Karl Moeckel is looking down at the exchange of documents. Also pictured are Drs. Enno Lolling, Eduard Wirths and Carl Clauberg. Heinz Baumkoetter is in the back looking up slightly.
