- Event History
- In July 1945 the Swedish Government agreed to aid 10,000 ex-inmates of Bergen Belsen, Buchenwald and other concentration camps in their recovery. The ex-prisoners were transported to a German veterans hospital in Luebeck, the Cambrai Barracks, renamed the Swedish Transit Hospital. After delousing and disinfection, those able to undertake the journey were transported to Sweden. Others too ill to travel remained in the permanent wing of the hospital.
