Photograph | Photograph Number: 49657

View of the still smoldering barracks at the Landsberg (Kaufering Lager I) sub-camp of Dachau concentration camp.

Original caption reads, "Landsberg Atrocity: The emaciated bodies of victims of German cruelty at Landsberg prison. Before retreating in the face of the 7th Army attack, guards locked the Jewish prisoners in their huts and told them they would be shot if they came out. Then the buildings were set on fire. Some burned to death in their huts, others found strength to break down the doors and crawl out to die in the streets. Most prisoners were naked, some had remnants of clothing on their charred bodies. View of the prison camp showing the cahrred remains of the burned huts in the foreground."
