    Event History
The Flemish Movement during WWI saw some Flemish Belgians welcome German occupiers as socalled "Germanic brothers," who would liberate them from French domination. Under German occupation Dutch was made the official administrative language and other measures were introduced to capitalize on Flemish-Walloon discontent.
