An elderly Polish woman, standing in front of a group of children, holds two silver spoons and a pair of scissors, all that remained of her home after it was destroyed in a German air raid during the siege of Warsaw.

The woman's name is Mrs. Jaworska. Julien Bryan later learned that she died in 1940.
