    Biography
    Leah Gutman (born Liza Grochowska) grew up in Bialystok, Poland. She was active in Maccabi and participated in basketball and, track and field events both in Bialystok and Palestine where she immigrated in December 1939. Her brother had previously immigrated four years earlier. In 1947 she immigrated to the United States. However, Liza's parents, Joseph (b. 1893) and Lova (nee Yevnin, b. 1895) and her sister Chaya (b. 1921) all perished in the Holocaust in 1943.
