Biography: Zdenka Eismannova was born in Prague in 1897. She was deported to Theresienstadt in September 1942, where she was interned for nine months. A talented artist, her paintings depict daily life in the Ghetto such as interior scenes of the women's barracks, a child wearing a star of David patch, and an exterior scene of the "leichenkammer" or corpse chamber as indicated in a poem on the front of the watercolor. On September 6, 1943 she was deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland, where she is presumed to have perished.
