    Biography
    Lee Merel was born in Berlin, Germany in1924. Prior to the war, Lee's family immigrated to the United States. Lee left his college studies to volunteer in the US Army. He was sent to France shortly after D-Day and served as an interpreter of the investigation of the chief engineer of the Krupp Armaments in Germany. He was also in charge of a mission to clear out the Gardelegen concentration camp in Germany.
