- Leah Starkman (born Leah Wajsfelner) is the daughter of Zelick (b 1903) and Leah (nee Szlamkiewicz, b. 1902) Wajsfelner. Leah was born in Chareloi, Belgium on July 31, 1929. Her parents were both born in Poland and immigrated to Belgium. After the German invasion of Belgium, Leah and her parents fled to France where they were incarcerated in the Venissieux internment camp. Leah later went into hiding in Lyon and in the farming village of Trescleoux in the French Alps. Her parents were deported to Auschwitz .
