Original caption reads: "Hundreds die of starvation in Holland. This man, 37, was one of the 1,200 persons who died of starvation in Amsterdam, Holland, when the Germans destroyed the country's dikes and flooded Dutch farms with seawater. Before the Allies liberated the Low Countries, they sent more than 2,150 B-17 Flying Fortresses which dropped 2,500 tons of food to the starving population. When the Germans were pushed back, land vehicles and ships rushed food to Holland". - Date
